Friday Talent Show

The Friday Talent Show is our very own talent and variety show with singing, dancing, lip-synch, and comedy featuring you! It is the highlight of an evening that begins with cocktails and a full meal served at the elegant and historic Elk's Lodge. Since 2000, attendees at Esprit have had the chance to make their dreams come true, that is, if your dream is to dress up like your idol and get up on stage shaking your booty and performing!

Our entertainment director's memory of rushing home to the TV to catch Barbie Benton have come to life in this year's show theme:

Hey Ya'll, This here's Margo D. who's runnin' the Friday festivities at Esprit this year. And I'm just wantin' to tell ya'll how I excited I am about our theme for Friday evenin' -- which is pretty much a fine dinner at the Elk's lodge, the always silly and surprising Talent show and then dancin' afterwards.

We'll be tippin' our straw hats to those fancy funny fellers who entertained anyone south of the Mason Dixon line, and whole bunch more folks all over the USA. So if you was even around in the 70's or the 80's you're sure to remember Roy Clark and Buck Owens who brought all the top-o-the-line country and western entertainment to the television for over twenty years.

Yep, I'm talkin' about that show that always started with that crazy Honky Donkey - HEE HAW.

But fer our show, o'course, we Tranny types have got to give it our own turn through the combine. So with only a shift of two simple letters, we'll have a transgender hullabaloo like no other -- You got it!

But seriously, start thinkin' of which kinda girl you wanna be that night: a gem bearin' gal all gussied up like a Southern Belle debutante, or maybe one sexy innocent country girl fresh from the farm, sportin' Daisy Dukes, and a midriff bearin' paisley top.

Between talent acts you just might even see the likes of Grandma Jones, the "Pfft you were gone" song, and Nurse Goodbody.

And for the show, you might wanna consider performin' an act that would go hand in hand with the theme of the show like two square dance partners who know their business. Just git yer KornField County juice flowin'!

In order to keep the show manageable, we are limiting the show to about 8 acts. Auditions will be required and the Talent Show Coordinator will set the rules for selecting acts. We'll post more details as they become available or check with the coordinator at Esprit.

Due to popular demand, this event is open to the public for a $5 cover charge (donated to charity) after the meal has concluded (approximately 8PM). Esprit staff and a local security guard will provide security and screen local guests. There will be a no-host bar serving alcohol so you must be 21 or over.

After the talent show, we'll have music and dancing by last year's TG band. For the more adventurous, The Nasty Habits will play their edgy 80's dance covers to their throngs of local fans in town (schedule/map). Esprit attendees are encouraged to join the friendly local crowd that comes out for the fun. You won't want to miss this great night of entertainment!

One more day left and we are definitely not ending quietly! On Saturday we start by honoring our first time attendees in a special ceremony ...

Talent Show Participant Guidelines

There are some basic guidelines that must be followed in order to make the show as enjoyable as possible.

We will enforce a limit on the number of acts. Pretty much anything goes, as long as it's satisfactory for the diverse, all-age audience that we have at Esprit. Participants will be limited to one turn up on stage with possible exceptions for well-rehearsed performances by players with established track records if we have a surplus of time. Performers are asked to restrict acts (songs/skits/sketches/etc.) to five minutes, as we're trying keep the show at a reasonable length and fast-paced.

Rehearsal is usually late in the week. The rehearsal time will be posted on the schedule as soon as possible but you should also check the Registration Desk for last minute scheduling announcements.

To avoid media and equipment incompatibilities, we recommended that you bring an original factory CD. You may bring your own burned audio or MP3 CD or cassette tape as a backup but personal copies have proven to be unreliable. You can email an electronic copy of your music to our show coordinator ahead of time to work out any glitches.

So get out there, get your acts together and practice, practice, practice! If you have any questions, want to get your act in the lineup early, or have equipment/stage questions, contact the talent show coordinator.
